Finding Micro-Moments of Mindfulness:
An Interview with ReMI
I had the pleasure of chatting mindfulness and ethical beauty with ReMI beauty. You can read our conversation below.
Nerida is a fashion model turned sustainable fashion advocate turned meditation guide whom we had the pleasure of spending time with in the last few months.
Here she shares her daily practice of finding micro-moments of mindfulness in the day.
Q: Tell us a little about your life now.
A: My journey has continued to evolve from being focused on the environmental and social responsibility in fashion industry into a deeper exploration of how Buddhism, mindfulness, and contemporary psychology can
support both personal and societal healing.
I’m pursuing a Masters in Contemplative Psychotherapy, which will allow me to integrate these practices within a therapeutic approach.
Q: Many of us struggle to meditate as we find it difficult to be still. As a meditation
teacher, can you tell us what can we do?
A: I completely relate to that struggle. There are times when I find it hard to sit still, too, which generally indicates that I am avoiding uncomfortable feelings that may arise from the stillness. But we can find ways to slowly and gently ease into the stillness of meditation, if sitting still feels too overwhelming.
We can begin by incorporating cumulative micro-moments of mindfulness into our
habits throughout the day.
It could be as simple as taking a deep breath while waiting for your coffee or tuning into the sensations of brushing your teeth. These small moments of presence help us reconnect to ourselves and slowly build a foundation for longer, more formal practices when we’re ready.
Q: Tell us about your relationship to your skin and how skincare fits into your day.
A: My skincare routine has actually become one of my most reliable mindful habits or rituals. When I initially learned mindfulness, we started by using micro-moments to come back to presence throughout the day—whether it was mindful eating or brushing my teeth. I’ve since applied that to my skincare routine, treating it as a time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with myself.
The massage effect from the ReMI Stone is a perfect tool for this, as it helps me slow down and ground myself. It’s an opportunity to simply look at myself in the mirror and ask, ‘How am I (really) doing?’ This not only helps me notice any physical tension I’m holding in my face and body, but also reminds me to soften and recalibrate my energy.
This approach turns what could be a mundane routine task into a moment of presence and nurturance.
